MPP Billy Pang writes: Real Leadership in Time of Need
Everyone knows that Ontario has always been the engine that drives Canada. It has always been the recognized hub in Canada for finance, technology, manufacturing and the economy. However during the last 2 years the entire world faced a pandemic situation that no one had ever seen or imagined. We saw the COVID-19 pandemic spread uncontrolled throughout the world like a raging wildfire leaving behind it millions of deaths along its path.
Canada was not immune and like many other countries it was not prepared. It is during these very difficult times that leaders show their true selves. Many leaders often crumble under the stress and heavy burden while others stand up and shine while not being afraid to make the necessary very difficult decisions. It is under these conditions that separate the men for the boys and where true leaders emerge.
At the very start of the pandemic, the Ontario government under the leadership of the Premier immediately went into action and introduced many relief programs almost on a daily basis. These programs provided relief and addressed the critical needs of businesses, workers, hospitals, health care workers, long-term care facilities, schools, seniors, churches, charities, affordable housing and providing vaccinations and testing kits.
With the worst days of the pandemic behind us, and with things now getting better, Ontario has emerged from the pandemic like a well–oiled machine and is still the engine that is driving Canada.
